Artist

Maxim Bondarenko, based in Sacramento CA, is an artist who creates paintings, drawings, and mixed media pieces. He uses color, texture, and composition to create a space where objects are transformed and their aesthetics become symbolic.

He mixes post-impressionistic techniques with elements of magic realism and surrealism in his oil paintings. By using different textures, he attempts to express various spiritual and emotional states of the objects and their environment.

In mixed media artworks, through careful technical manipulations on cardboard and paint, he strives to create a fresh yet ancient and timeless feel to his artwork. His current art philosophy and techniques are the result of focusing on the Culture of a Stroke and experimenting with “oldened” textures.

At least I didn't forget to title it back then! That Circle of Hell: passed!

It is one of those works where I combined figurative and abstract as two visual languages defining attempts that are doomed it the very core of human being. But there's not a better fate than to lose that Game. Not to be too vulgar, looser takes everything.
All as we love: fancy Byzantine Prospective as my usual signifier of heavenly realms. While the Abstract reveals just that Unfathomable.
An eye changing its cornea and pupil. That actually makes me nervous.
To repeat again and again: She talks to us through our senses!
As in the "Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23": exalted June in the Korean Episcopal Church: - "God speaks in all languages!" - "Yes but do you speak Korean?".
Yeah! All our senses! Just keep them ready for the tricks! And treats.
Pavel Florensky taught me, a little kid well on how to be at home.
I still wasn't epiphanied yet - what are those numbers?!
Another reference - that silly meme: "Is an abomination to God, that one who studies geometry!". It's just a meme! Don't be serious, my imaginary reader! No need to be jealous! We know who wins as Her favorite abomination! Though I was good at geometry! I was bad at the Abstract! Numbers!
But drama aside, I'm pretty sure all those layers of Holy Mess meant only well. Because it is about the gay gene!

Love these new insane mockups so much! They do not insult my collector with assumptions they will hang my art in a corporate sterile white, placing an ugly office lamp next to it for a scale? Of the disaster. Who do you think my collectors are? Lab mice?
No! They are mostly highwaymen, pirates, circus acrobats, philosophers with their weakness for luster, banditos, кinкstеrs, sect leaders, sех аddiкts, bon vivantes, pocker players, gourmets, two opera singers and one speleologists.
Feel something Jungian? Do you even see them? The gist, they live noble life in the dimmed ambiance of the playroom like a trophy? Do you?
No you don’t. But they do!

That exudes that fermenting fragrance of the sweet wasted life, all the wrong life goals will crash in the middle. On my art. Try to fiddle.
Try to sleep any longer like it wasn’t your call. Silly commenter! Or it wasn’t for all fucks and sakes Mother Entropy chained in hexameter.

Yesterday I realized that any respectful art institution avoids to censure art because of more serious risks than just to leave bigots unappeased. Any censure creates a toxic context of art as useful or not useful for authorities. Yikes! Moreover it creates less welcoming environment for uncensored pieces, leaving them in then created context as inoffensive роrn.
I’m an idealist but I believe art institutions should never play by the rules of bigots, rules of power structures, rules of patriarchy, violence, inequality etc. Some friendships are harmful.
Why am I writing that? Why am I so sensitive tonight? I was reminded that one platform censured my art. Silly! They were selling my works quite well until, I guess, politics changed. Okay! Fuсk рrudеs and idiots! I wish them big sales with bigots that they sucked to. We know that those who are offended by art are the biggest buyers! As much as those who burn books are always the biggest readers. Yep yep!

If an artist says that it came out exactly as they wanted it’s a lie.

When I was falling asleep I saw a super modernist, futuristic, complicated, eight edged halftone pattern with electric yellow, magenta and turquoise offsets. It was supposed to stylishly complement these old school flowers, trees, cupids, silks. It was felt so clear, tangible that I was sure I will easily manifest it on paper ‘tomorrow’. Tomorrow came few weeks later as a parody to my dreams. My day is hectic, nervous, inconsistent. My mind is short and impatient. I became too lazy, cutting corners in my approach and seeking for ‘simple solutions’ when imitating that magnificent pattern, which I saw in my alpha frequency state.
It still looks ‘nice’, but I would lie saying that it is what I wanted to achieve.

I always say that my favorite composer is Monteverdi. He really is. But recently I realized that my art lives in Beethoven’s music. It’s not even an inspiration. It’s just what it is. My creative thinking is just locked there. No! I’m not about Heroica! More about awkwardness and conflict with reality. About pain and fears. Though I’m sure the last ones are mine, not Beethoven’s. Not quite modern but still provocative and edgy. Some music shouldn’t necessarily to be the most favorite for you to be locked there.

After I ‘ruined’ this sheet with my laziness I wanted to begin something new. If only you knew how many unfinished works I have. More than Leonardo.
I needed something fresh. However I was feeling beginning a new work won’t make me free of promises to myself.
I realized that I’m going to paint with coffee that I was drinking that moment. It made its ‘unserious’ purpose to distract me from my fails to the entertainment side.
It’s not my idea, I’m not the first painting with coffee. I saw a grisaille painted with coffee in one kitchen staying with my then husband at his friend’s place. I would give a lot to return those seconds with my then husband.
Okay markers, but coffee really screams: everything is perishable! Now I’m guessing what will survive longer, coffee or markers? My marriage didn’t survive.

My coworker donated a set of 100 markers, and they pulled me out of a year-long art crisis. Now, I draw whenever I have a free moment — between conversations, calls, and errands. It helps me work, keeping me from overthinking or taking art too seriously, which was never helpful anyway.

I titled this piece ‘Ruthless Romanticism That Tears Off Masks’. I finished it a month ago. Halfway through, I grew frustrated with how it was unfolding—sometimes, you need soft, light crutches of explanation when touching the dark, grieving parts of your soul. But in the end, it emerged smoothly, not as dark as I expected.
