About Artwork
Kissing Mountains is an oil pastel drawing on black paper set in a steep mountain valley. Two nude men stand in the right foreground, pressed close, kissing. Their bodies are drawn with bright, restless contour—white, yellow, and hot reds—so the figures read like light caught on skin rather than smooth anatomy. One hand cups the other’s face; the embrace holds them upright.
The landscape is broad and heavy around them. A dark mountain wall fills the left side, while paler, bluish peaks rise in the distance. Across the valley floor, bands of green shift from deep shadow to sharp, sunlit yellow. In the lower left, a small patch of purple flowers anchors the field and pulls the eye back into the ground.

Frequently Asked Questions
The composition keeps the kiss slightly off-center, letting the mountains take up most of the frame. That imbalance matters: the couple feels intimate, almost private, even in open air. The title lands as a double image—the peaks “kissing” in the distance while the figures do the same in the foreground—connection scaled up and down without explanation.
