About Artwork

Burning It is an oil pastel drawing on black paper that turns tenderness into weather. The body is rendered with weighted, sculptural modeling—warm browns, soft highlights, and cool outlines—while the head and upper space erupt into swirling color. Yellow and ochre strokes rise like fire; blues, reds, greens, and violets cluster like petals caught in heat.

The composition reads as containment versus release. The crossed arms keep the figure closed, but the color above him refuses closure. The black paper is crucial: it makes the image feel nocturnal and private, and it gives the bright marks the intensity of light in darkness.

This artwork lands as desire under pressure—beauty that doesn’t stay decorative, intimacy that turns inward, feeling that becomes visible. It doesn’t spell anything out. It holds a charged state and lets you name it.

Because oil pastel is tactile and surface-sensitive, this piece benefits from close viewing. In warm light the yellows flare; in cooler light the blues and greens sharpen. Frame behind UV glass, keep out of direct sun, and avoid humidity.
