Metaphysical Still-Life is a 40 × 30 inch acrylic-and-tempera painting on art cardboard, unframed. The background is a dark night landscape: deep blues at the top, then a smoky band of violet and red, like storm light far away. In front sits a green box-table with a yellow top, pushed close to the viewer.
On that tabletop, simple shapes become characters. A tall red pyramid, a sharp yellow wedge, a green translucent pyramid, and a white pyramid streaked with red (and torn open to a dark hollow) stand among scattered fruit-like spheres and a cluster of purple grapes. At the back-right, a small bright-eyed animal figure stands upright, blue-striped with orange legs.
The table has a face: two large eyes and a smaller central eye painted across its front, with thin black lines like lashes. That single move makes the scene feel watched, not merely arranged.
